European legislation and sustainability standards
Implementing and maintaining sustainability standards and practices within an organization include implementing sustainability tracking of the organization’s environmental impact. In terms of European legislation, SECuRe manager need to be familiar with a range of regulations and directives related to environmental protection and sustainability. This involves working closely with other departments, as well as with external stakeholders such as regulators.
Participants will be able to identify the purpose of Corporate Sustainability Reporting (CSR) for businesses and society in general, recognize the importance and benefits of CSR for businesses and society in general, get the knowledge about existing international agreements, European legislation, and voluntary international standards covering social topics, understand requirements of ISO standards, European Union (EU) guidelines and GRI standards.
The SECuRe manager will be able to:
- understand the key elements of European legislation and sustainability standards from a business perspective;
- identify what is applicable to their organization;
- engage the company’s value chain to gain access to the data needed.
Sustainability management
Sustainability management represents an activity of managing sustainability issues in organizations. The successful integration of ecological, social, and economic factors in a business is one of the many aims of sustainability management.
The SECuRe manager will be able to:
- define organizational management through the physical dimensions of sustainability and explain sustainability principles in management;
- focus on sustainability principles and management, assisting organizations in walking the tightrope between their environmental impact and their business goals.
Environmental dimension
Businesses have tremendous opportunities to improve their resource efficiency and overall environmental performance. The first step is to understand their impact on natural resources, on the climate and biodiversity, to learn what are the key elements to be considered and how to approach and monitor continuous improvement of the environmental performance.
The SECuRe manager will be able to:
- understand key elements of the environmental dimension from the business perspective;
- recognize the business’s impact and plan for its reduction.
Social dimension
A substantial part of UN Sustainable Development Goals as well as European Social Charter and future EU sustainability legislation in preparation (such as social taxonomy in parallel to environmental taxonomy, the ESRS reporting standards supplementing the CRSD directive or the draft Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence directive) are human rights, cultural and other fundamental rights and freedoms.
The SECuRe manager will be able to:
- understand key elements of the social dimension of ESG from the business perspective;
- recognize and analyze the business’s impact;
- propose and implement appropriate improvement solutions.
Corporate governance dimension
The term corporate governance refers to the relations between the company’s management, its board, shareholders and broader stakeholders, as well as the way in which the company’s goals are achieved, the structure of its bodies and the guiding principles (internal policies) directing all of its operations – from compensation, risk management, and employee treatment to financial results, reporting, and dealing with impact on the climate, environment, human rights etc.
The SECuRe manager will be able to:
- understand key elements of the governance dimension of ESG from the business perspective;
- recognize and analyze the business’s impact;
- propose and implement appropriate improvement solutions.
Sustainability reporting
Disclosure and communication of environmental, social and governance activities and goals of organizations are important for building consumer confidence and corporate reputation, as well as increase of innovation and the improvement of risk management. The user will learn in this learning unit on sustainable reporting and standardization of data.
The SECuRe manager will be able to:
- generate comprehensive knowledge about the legal and organizational framework on sustainable reporting;
- report on sustainable elements of their organization.
